My CrossFit journey started in July 2013. I joined a CrossFit gym with very, very limited knowledge about CrossFit, and was simply looking for something active to do over the summer. I’ve always been active, but since moving to Boston in 2010, hadn’t found my fitness groove and bounced around between gyms or at-home work outs. I remember my first CrossFit workout very clearly. I had to do push presses and finish with the benchmark WOD, Karen…. I didn’t even know how to put weights and clips on the bar, and then you expect me to do 150 wallballs!?! Needless to say, I survived and went back for more!
Over the past 3 years, CrossFit has not only pushed my to be in the best physical condition of my life, but I have also formed some of the deepest, strongest friendships through my CF gyms. The physical component is, of course, important, but it is the community, the endless support and the kind, loving, fearless people that make me look forward to going to the gym. I continue to amaze myself with each workout that I complete and PR that I accomplish, and credit all my progress to the supportive members and dedicated coaches. I am so honored to be part of such an amazing community at BIG and will always love my CrossFit family!
Tina: What is your favorite WOD so far? What is your favorite weight lifting movement?
My favorite WOD?… that’s a tough one! I don’t think I can choose. I love the constant change and unpredictability that are CrossFit WODs. Even when they include some of my least favorite movements or lifts, I still like them because they push me out of my comfort zone and challenge me to grow as an athlete.
My favorite weight lifting movements are overhead squats and hang power/squat cleans.
Billy: Would you rather do 20 minutes of Thrusters or Burpees?
20 minutes of burpees! No question! (I strongly dislike thrusters.)
Justin: What inspires you most?
ALL OF YOU!
Miguel: What is your go to comfort food?
PIZZA! (and red wine…) I could eat pizza every day of the week and never get sick of it.
