BIG Nutrition: “Appy” Thanksgiving
My feeling about a Thanksgiving meal—do not mess with the classics—turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and apple pie are must haves. They do not need lots of changes to ‘modernize’ them nor do they need fancy ingredients added. One area where I, and others, may be willing to branch out on this day is appetizers. Here are several that are easy to assemble, tasty, and with a focus on whole fresh foods:
- Roasted Vegetable Antipasto Plate
- Figs with Bacon and Chile
- Crunchy Stuffed Cremini Mushrooms
- Spicy Baked Shrimp
- Fresh Figs with Peppered Honey
- Creamy Avocado Dip with Scallions
- Bloody Mary Tomato Toast
While much of the day is spent in anticipation of the food, friend and family, it’s a good idea to start the day off with WOD and a solid breakfast, like this baked oatmeal. All the best to our BIG members and their families on a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
