Looking at body building and athletic performance sites, they are full of offers for supplements. Most of these advertise that their products are “natural” and offer amazing results and follow it up with a convenient way to alleviate you of your hard-earned money. These supplements should be viewed with caution since many of the contain ingredients not declared on the labels. Anabolic steroids, in particular, exert harm and decrease fertility in men.
Rampant in the dietary supplement industry, which is unregulated, are supplements that are tainted with drugs and unapproved ingredients. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that supplement alternatives that offer “steroid” or “steroid like” results should be stopped immediately because they may have steroids in them or ingredients that mimic steroid action and are therefore unsafe for use.
Health effects of chronic steroid use include kidney and liver injury, heart disease, stroke, blood clots severe acne, hair loss, altered mood, irritability, aggression, and depression. In addition, researchers estimate that anabolic steroid use may causes sterility in up to 90% of users. Anabolic steroids disrupt the hormones that are needed to stimulate sperm production. Men may not be aware that the steroids are having this effect because there is not an impact on the volume of ejaculate, but the sperm count may be affected.
Promises of quick and easy outcomes with supplements should raise red flags since every athlete knows that it is really the time dedicated in the gym combined with nutrient dense food that produces real results.
Happy and healthful eating,
