BIG Nutrition: Thankful and safe
We just finished the nutrition challenge and Thanksgiving is here! You won’t hear me saying, ”Eat a baked apple with whipped cream instead of apple pie and you will save 450 calories!” Ridiculous! Enjoy a piece of pie and move on. However, I will share with you some links for thawing, cooking, and handling cooked turkey so that you don’t introduce foodborne illness into your holiday. According to the CDC, nearly 1 in 6 Americans experiences a foodborne illness each year so these helpful links are important for keeping your family and friends safe.
- 3 safe ways to thaw a frozen turkey, just in case yours is still a bit frozen this morning.
- Roasting guide for stuffed and unstuffed turkeys.
- Pink turkey meat: Is it done?
- Turkey and gravy leftover
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving BIG members! You make CrossFit Boston Iron and Grit a fun, supportive, and rewarding community!
Happy and healthful eating,
Donna G. Pertel, MEd, RD, LDN
