Looking for a gift for someone who is a serious athlete or is training for CrossFit competitions? There is a lot of hype for products that claim to be great for athletes, but there are some ergogenic aids (supplements intended to enhance physical performance) that have research to support their use:

Purchasing these as supplements can be an expensive venture, so an alternative is to opt for foods that offer these. Further, to get the benefit of these and prevent harm, they need to be timed and given in appropriate amounts and many require cycling (on and off). A recent review of ergogenic aids was done by the National Institutes of Health. Weighing the benefits with the costs is an important approach so that you get the maximum benefit and avoid costly mistakes.
