I was introduced to CrossFit in the spring of 2013. I wasn’t looking for a new way to train; I was active, had a trainer and I thought I was physically fit. I had just recovered from orthoscopic knee surgery and didn’t think I would be able to keep pace. I walked into a new CrossFit gym for a free trial and after a week I was hooked. I was sore and I loved it!
What I love about CrossFit are the constantly varied workouts. The lifting, the gymnastic skill development, the running and yes, the burpees! I especially love the community aspect of CrossFit. I love that we get to suffer through each workout together, push and challenge each other to keep moving. My box is like my second home (literally) and they are my gym family. My community has seen me through many accomplishments but also some of my failed attempts. They have stood by me as I have reached for new goals.
I’m starting my fifth year in CrossFit and I’m pretty excited about my growth as an athlete. I’ve done a few Powerlifting and Olympic lifting meets and placed on the podium each time. I’ve competed in many local competitions which full fills my competitive nature. My goal to make it to Regionals and each year I get closer. My goal makes me work harder.
Now that I have passed my Level 1 and am nearing the end of my internship at BIG I get to spread my love of CrossFit and become a coach! It was a goal of mine to become a coach and now I get to be a part of the Iron & Grit TEAM!! I want to help other athletes accomplish their own goals.
I look forward to a fun future as a coach at BIG and I hope to add more to the community and the members’ experience!
